Well, didn’t think I’d have any news to report so soon… not with E3 around the corner and all, but hey, SEGA’s got something else in store for us. Following on the heels of the Mario and Sonic sequel coming soon, we’ve got news of another sequel slated for release this year.

Have a little Fire and Ice.

And we’ve got a trailer for it too!

Didn’t see that one coming.

From the looks of the initial trailer, it seems this one is planning on being a bigger and better version of Shattered Crystal. On top of an additional playable character in Amy (Hooray!), which brings the grand total to a whopping five, this game also is bringing elemental powers to the table. Fire can be used to burn your way through obstacles in your path, and ice can blaze new paths by freezing water – granting Sonic and Co a new way to go.

The trailer also shows off a few boss battles, which sounds like something the first game really lacked. They utilize the Sonic Rush dual screen setup which in my opinion is a recipe for successes. Throw in “Thunder Island” a local dedicated to local racing matches between Eggmans robots (here is hoping for a playable BurnBot) and this one seems to be pretty far along than the more scarce offering of the original.

A little bit of digging reveals that the central villain of this one is Defect, a rouge Eggman creation. It also shows that Sanzaru is building this one with a bit more attention to the speed side of things. More linear levels dedicated to proper pacing and less on Castlyvania style exploration.

I’m sure we’ll see plenty more when E3 hits. I myself am interested in seeing a full stage in action – to get a feel for this new focus on pace.

Till then, enjoy the trailer and the trippy music that goes with it.

Hmm, while your here, might as well fan some of the flames of the rumor mill. Its moving at full speed this time of year you know.

Go Rumor Mill Go!

I know Rosalina was a big topic of interest with the last journal. Seeing her make the cut for the Rio games would be a big boost for a lot of your guys.

Well, some guys over at the Rio Olympic blog apparently spilled the beans and listed her as in the game, mentioning her competing in a sync-swimming event. No visual proof of that yet, but I think that’s a pretty strong endorsement to say that she’s going to make the team.

Just something to chew on. ^^

I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping this was a Lyric sequel, not Crystal.  Seeing this trailer, it looks like it's gonna be the exact same kinda game as Crystal and the fact that all of the "cutscenes" are actually clips from the show doesn't inspire confidence.  I like that this game has boss fights...but that should really be standard issue for a Sonic game.  That said...Sonic's still in video games.  Still in video games that aren't limited to mobile phones.

I hope this is just what they could pull together before E3 and there's more to this game than meets the eye, but I'll have to see.  Either way, I might have to buy it just to support the Blue Blur.  I hear Sega's considering Sonic's future and a lot of people are afraid that will mean just phone games from now on.  I'll sit through another disappointing 3DS game before consigning myself to phone games.

Anywho, thanks for scrounging up this info!  I though the Boom games were dead on arrival; never thought they'd make another one if somebody didn't tell me first.
